About Reishi

The medicinal effect of Reishi has been known in China for centuries. In a Chinese book from the second century BC this medicinal mushroom is already mentioned along with a list of other medicinal herbs and mushrooms. According to some sources, the use of Reishi as a medicinal mushroom dates back to the tenth century BC.

The Chinese name for Reishi is Lishi Zhi. Freely translated, this means 'divine mushroom of immortality'. This fungus owes its name to the versatile medicinal effect that Lishi Zhi has according to Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM).

In the Netherlands, this type of fungus is called 'Gesteelde'. However, in the trade and internationally, the Japanese name (Reishi) or the first part of the scientific name (Ganoderma) is usually used for this medicinal mushroom.

Reishi in nature

Ganoderma grows especially well in a temperate or subtropical climate. It is found in the Far East, Europe and North America.

In the wild, this fungus species grows mainly at the base, in tree hollows or on stumps of weakened or dead deciduous trees such as beech, oak, poplar and chestnuts.

Cultivation

Although the medicinal properties of Reishi have been known for centuries, it took a long time before it was possible to cultivate Reishi on a large scale.

This changed in the XNUMXs. Japanese researchers then developed a method to grow Reishi on a large scale in a controlled environment.

Why capsules?

With all medicinal mushrooms, capsules have the advantage that an exact dosage is possible, because it is known exactly how much extract there is in each capsule. In addition, capsules are more user-friendly than other forms of intake.

With Reishi there is another advantage. This medicinal mushroom has a very bitter taste. Because a Reishi capsule contains the extract in a tasteless casing, you will not notice this bitter taste.
